Sea Mist Renovation. Sea Mist was built in 1914, commissioned into the Royal navy in 1915. Designed originally as one of eight forty five foot supply, support boats for HMS Lion. HMS Lion served as the flagship of the Grand fleet's battle cruisers throughout World War I, and in particular served as Beatty's at the battles of Dogger Bank and Jutland. These boats providing transport for crew and supplies. Built by Sheppard and Whitney (citation needed) of 7/8thpitch pine over oak ribbing. A classic sleek lines with a “tumble home” stern profile. She probably had a small cuddy for crew but was mostly open. Powered by a paraffin engine, driving a single propeller. Decommissioned in 1924, she was then converted into a “Gentleman's Yacht” with a centre closed bridge, aft captain’s cabin, forward saloon and a small cabin forward. Two David Brown diesels replaced the single paraffin engine driving two shafts and props. These where subsequently replaced by a pair of Ford Sabres straight six, 120 (hp) called Jake and Elwood... The current owner is continuing the restoration.
