St Helens Fort Walk.
Every year thousands of people descend on the beach at St Helens on the Isle of Wight to take part in what is known at “The Fort Walk”. Especially low spring tides at this time of year expose the causeway that was used to transport materials to the site of the fort, allowing people to be able to walk out and round the structure.. It is the southern most of the four “Palmeston's” forts guarding the eastern entrance to The Solent. It was built between 1867 and 1880. © Patrick Eden
